Alastin has been a leader in medical-grade skin care for a full decade, and its latest launch is another breakthrough. This time, the brand is bringing the next generation of TriHex technology to a tried-and-true favorite, the Restorative Skin Complex. The result is a revamped collagen- and elastin-boosting formula that redefines what it means to topically plump skin.

Enhanced Formula, Incredible Results

According to the chief scientific officer at Galderma and Head of Alastin Innovations, Alan Widgerow, MD, the impulse for the new formulation comes from his observations developing a proprietary peptide for Alastin in 2017. “Right from the time we realized that octapeptide-45 stimulated hyaluronic acid, it was in my mind that we had to see what this did when combined with the TriHex technology,” he explains. “We were pretty sure we would have synergy.”

The goal, Dr. Widgerow notes, was to develop a formula where the ingredients didn’t just work together, but made the outcomes even better for skin. “This new generation technology prompts new, healthy elastin and collagen, improves hydration and we see improvement in the derma-epidermal junction,” he says. “And with the addition of the ingredient magnaol, we see volume improvement in dermal fat, which we tend to lose with aging.”

Reviewing the clinical data, facial plastic surgeon and Alastin consultant, Charles M Boyd, MD, demonstrates the differences in patient skin biopsies before and after using the new Restorative Skin Complex with TriHex Technology for 12 weeks.

“Just some of the results that really stood out were a 40 percent decrease in skin surface roughness, a 30 percent decrease in erythema and pigment,” Dr. Boyd says. The skin biopsies were dyed to highlight certain elements of the skin, allowing researchers to physically see the improvement in elastin, cell proliferation and survival, as well as the adipocytes that are critical to skin volume. “And anything that can increase adipocytes in the skin, especially topically, is a huge win.”

Alastin Redefines ‘Skin Plumping’ Claims

“For years we’ve been asking how to get rid of any fat we have, and now we’re asking how do we get it back in the right places,” explains Dr. Widgerow. “With the advent of GLP-1s, you’re losing a lot of lean mass and fat, which can create that gaunt look in the face.”

And the new Restorative Skin Complex with TriHex Technology is a perfect way to mitigate some of those unexpected changes. “We’re not just replacing lost volume,” Dr. Widgerow stresses. “We’re enhancing the regenerative capability of these small, healthy cells.”

It’s important to note that traditional claims of “plumping” in topical skin care refer to moisture content and how “plump” and hydrated skin looks. This breakthrough from Alastin is about restoring volume on a cellular level.

“This is the only topical skin plumping that exists,” Dr. Widgerow confirms. “We’ve opened the door to that whole story.”

“I would agree,” Dr. Boyd confirms. “I don’t know of anything that’s in this category that has shown clinical results like this, it’s a truly unique product.”
